London Borough of Tower Hamlets School Admissions Policy
The policies for the nine county schools within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets are decided by the Education and Community Services Community. The governors of two controlled schools - Central Foundation and George Green's - have asked the Council to use the same priority admission criteria as for the county schools and to run the same scheme for them.
If one of the county schools are over-subscribed in any band with first choice applications, the admission criteria set out below are used (descending order of priority) to allocate places and are subject to statutory requirements.
First priority - The pupils living nearest the school who are first born of their sex in the case of an application to a single sex school. (Number to reflect 25% of the second year intake).
Second Priority - Pupils who have a brother or sister currently at the school.
Third Priority - Pupils who live nearest to the school by the shortest walking route. Distances are measured on a large scale map of the area.
If any of these schools are over-subscribed with second or third choice applications, the places will be allocated within each band to those living nearest the school by the shortest walking route.
Exceptional Medical or Social Reasons
Pupils, who have a very strong medical or social reason for attending a particular school named as the first choice, maybe given priority for admission. Parent must complete the relevant section on the transfer form and attach medical and/or social reports signed by a doctor or social worker to the form.
The application will be considered by the Primary/Secondary Transfer Committee.
Confirmation of Address
You may be required to provide acceptable independent proof of your child's address. Please make sure the transfer form you complete is accurate and tell the Headteacher of your child's school if there are relevant changes.
