More Able and Talented (MAT)

Our Vision

At George Green's school we are committed to ensuring that all pupils have equal opportunity to reach their full potential. One way we achieve this is through our provision for More Able and Talented pupils. Our vision is that our pupils' talents and abilities are recognised by everyone in our school community, including parents, and that the pupils are supported in achieving excellence.

Who is More Able and Talented?

Our criteria for identifying these students have recently been updated to include two distinct categories:
'More Able'
. Achieved level 5 or level 6 in their Key Stage 2 assessments at primary school.
. Or identified as more able due to exceptional progress and attainment during Y7-11
'Talented'
. Identified by subject teams as having potential to excel.

What do we offer our More Able and Talented students?

Knowledge of our MAT students is used to ensure appropriate challenge in lessons and the provision of extra-curricular opportunities aimed to raise aspirations and raise achievement. Included in this are specialised workshops, trips to places of interest and early exam entry. We also monitor the progress of these students closely, targeting interventions where appropriate.

In addition to this MAT pupil's take part in further opportunities which include trips to Russell Group Universities, specialised revision conferences, programmes with well established businesses such as Credit Suisse and Osborne Clarke and support and guidance in applying for scholarships to educational establishments like the prestigious Rugby School. We also participate in many outreach programmes run by local universities and other organisations to support continuation into Higher Education.
