Why I chose GG Sixth Form?

I chose GGS because I did my GCSEs in this school and felt comfortable with all the teachers here. I felt the atmosphere was ideal for learning and after getting 10 grade 9s for my GCSEs, I had evidence that convinced me that this school was an environment where I could push myself to achieve things that once felt unthinkable. I knew I was surrounded by teachers who were ready to push me and believe in me. I knew I was also going to get a lot of support for UCAS (which turned out to be the case).

What I studied here?

In GGS I studied Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Psychology at A level. I also did an EPQ alongside this.

What was the best bit about GG Sixth Form?

I'd say the best thing about GGS was definitely the environment. I was surrounded by many likeminded students who always kept me on my toes and made sure I could never slack off. The teachers were also amazing and always made time to help me with anything I needed. There were even many instances where Mr Cullenbrooke stayed back with me until 6pm helping me work on my personal statement, something I feel was crucial in helping me strengthen my university application. I could name the contribution of each individual teacher but that would take too long.

How were you helped in the university application process?

As mentioned above, there were many instances where Mr Cullenbrooke stayed back until 6pm to help me with my personal statement. Ms Bailey was also another teacher who gave me so much of her time in order to help make sure my personal statement was as good as it could be. I feel the contribution from both these teachers meant that I was able to send off a personal statement that I could be confident in and proud of. Even when I thought the personal statement couldn't be improved any further, I'd always be pushed to make minor changes, teaching me to always find ways to improve and never being complacent with it.

Where and what are you going to study now?

If everything goes to plan, I will be studying medicine at UCL.

Advice to new students?

Make sure to put in 100% effort as soon as you start year 12. This isn't like GCSE where you can afford to slack off and just cram around exam time. A level content is like an interconnected and complicated maze, everything links with everything else so that means it's so important you don't let yourself slack off on a certain topic or content. Falling behind on one topic can have a domino effect and you'll potentially find yourself struggling to learn content for other parts of the chapter. Treat each chapter as a steppingstone/foundation for the next and you'll find A level content is a lot easier to manage.

Why I chose GG Sixth Form?

I received lots of support from my teachers during my GCSEs and already knew that they would support me further with my A-Levels to high standards. There were extra support sessions put in place to help us with our confidence in each subject and all of my teachers were so approachable whenever I did need help which was a BIG positive.

What I studied here?

I studied Biology, Chemistry and French

What was the best bit about GG Sixth Form?

The best bit for me would be staying back after school, playing pool and just hanging out with everyone after a long day of learning.

How were you helped in the university application process?

The Access Project helped me a lot, both my university access officer and tutor helped me perfect my personal statement so much I am so grateful. As well as spending time with me on this, my tutor and one of my teachers took their time to help me with mock interviews which was a part of the universities’ selection process and I couldn’t have done it without this help!

Where and what are you going to study now?

I’ll be going to the University of Southampton to study Medicine hopefully and I can’t wait!

Advice to new students?

Start revising from the beginning so you are familiar with the content and it’s easier to go over nearer to exam periods. Just keep going, it may seem long but it’s goes by very quickly and just keep yourself motivated, studying in groups also really helps because you can fill gaps in your knowledge with help from friends/peers.

Why I chose GG Sixth Form?

A big factor for me when choosing a Sixth Form was the quality of the teachers. Having gone to GGS beforehand, I already knew how great the teachers were here. Every teacher has their own teaching style which makes each lesson unique and interesting. Even during virtual teaching, teachers would put 100% into every lesson and keep the class the motivated. Based on these experiences, I definitely believe I made the right choice.

What I studied here?

While at GGS, I studied Maths, Biology and Chemistry A-levels.

What was the best bit about GG Sixth Form?

The best part of GG Sixth Form would have to be all extra-curricular opportunities presented to you. Taking part in programmes such as The Access Project and Career Ready helped me establish good networks with people from all different kinds of backgrounds.

How were you helped in the university application process?

We were told to start planning our personal statements months ahead the deadline. I feel like this was quite advantageous to us as we were able to spend more time tailoring and refining our personal statements without the stress of a due date. This also helped free up some time around mocks which made it easier to focus.

Where and what are you going to study now?

I’m planning to study Law at the University of Bristol.

Advice to new students?

Sixth Form is tricky. If at anytime you feel like you’re struggling or falling behind, let the teacher know. There is absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help. Every teacher here wants you to achieve the best grades you can. It’s better to ask early so you understand the content instead of waiting till the last minute.

The best bit about the sixth form was definitely the ambition and hard work the teachers had for us students.

How were you helped in the university application process?

I was really supported in my application to university as the teachers helped me with the upcoming entry exams by purchasing a subscription for me, also putting me in relevant societies which will help me be more informed in the application process as well as also thoroughly going through my personal statement and assisting me on that as well.

Where and what are you going to study now?

I’m going to be studying Dentistry in Queen Mary

Advice to new students?

Take part in things that will actively encourage/ boost you in the application process to your desired course, I’d also advise not going to hard on yourself and take frequent breaks and make sure you don’t cut off the things you enjoy/ love doing for the sake of your A-levels - all you need is the correct balance and you will be fine.
