Letter from Mr Ryder

Returning to School in September 2021 Factsheet

We will be reopening fully to all students in September 2021. Please see the information below, which sets out how we will be managing the school.

Keeping the community safe

We will be adopting the following principles to help prevent the spread of Covid-19:

  1. Staff or students showing the symptoms of Covid-19 must stay at home and arrange a Covid-19 test as soon as possible.
If it is negative they can return to school.
If it is positive, they must self-isolate for 10 days from the first day they showed symptoms
  2. Face coverings must be worn in communal spaces (corridors, toilets). They are optional in classrooms
  3. Staff and students must wash or sanitise their hands often; hand sanitiser is available in all classrooms, in the dining halls and on corridors; students will be expected to sanitise their hands at the start of every lesson
  4. Coughs and sneezes must be caught in a tissue and the tissue disposed of safely (catch it, bin it, kill it); tissues and lidded bins will be placed in every classroom
  5. There will be increased cleaning of the building and cleaning products will be available to staff and students in every classroom
  6. There will be increased ventilation in inside spaces

As a further way of controlling the spread of the virus, we have been directed by government to offer two rapid Covid tests (Lateral Flow Tests) on site in September. See information below. Students will then be expected to test at home.

In the event of a positive Covid-19 test, we will work with local health protection teams to decide on the appropriate course of action.

We may need to adapt our approach to keeping the community safe if rates of infection change; parents will be kept informed if changes are required.

The organisation of the school day

  • Students must arrive at school from 8.35am; no students will be allowed into the building before 8.35am, unless attending Breakfast Club. Breakfast Club runs 7.30-8.30 and will begin on 13th September
  • Students will enter and exit the building through their designated entrances/exits:
    • Year 7 – Saunders Ness Road gate
    • Year 8 – Saunders Ness Road gate
    • Year 9 – car park gate
    • Year 10 – main entrance/reception
    • Year 11 – science gate

Returning to school in September

  • We will be delivering rapid Covid testing to as many students as possible. This is an opportunity to keep us all – students, families and staff – safe by keeping Covid out of the school
  • The rapid test is carried out by swabbing the throat and nose. It is completely painless and does not require any medical training to carry it out
  • We have been directed by government to carry out two rapid tests of students in school. They have given us permission to have a staggered start to the term to facilitate this
  • Once in-school testing is complete students will be given test kits so that they can swab themselves twice a week at home. This will be reviewed by government at the end of September
  • We want all our students to have a rapid test before they return to school. The following parents MUST give consent:
    • Year 7 students
    • New students
    • Parents who have not previously given consent
  • The following parents DO NOT need to give consent:
    • Sixth form parents (students over the age of 16 can give consent themselves)
    • Parents of students in years 8-11 who have previously given consent to a rapid test
    • Your child has tested positive for Covid in the last 90 days (they are not contagious, but may still test positive)
  • Consent can be given by clicking here

Please see below the time your child needs to come in to take their rapid test. They must be on time. Parents and carers will not be allowed to come onto site
