Success for Our Eco-Committee

Success for Our Eco-Committee

Over the summer, we received some amazing news about the work of our Eco-Committee.

We are incredibly proud of the progress made by our Eco-Committee this year. Students have taken greater ownership of environmental issues and are becoming confident voices for positive change across the school.

Environmental leadership
Students took ownership of the Environmental Review, working in pairs to investigate different areas of sustainability and helping shape our Eco-Schools Action Plan.

Thames21 partnership
Our students have been involved in the Thames21 project, learning how community action and nature-based solutions can help protect London’s rivers and waterways.

STEM for sustainability
Our Year 9 students impressed in a STEM challenge with JPMorganChase. HSGo achieved 2nd place with a robot designed to remove plastic from the seabed, while Hydrox reached the finals with a device designed to locate difficult-to-find water leaks.

Student voice
Students are increasingly confident in speaking up about issues they care about. Uzra’s powerful postcard to our local MP, inspired by Greta Thunberg, demonstrated the impact young people can have when they use their voices.

A growing culture of sustainability
Perhaps our greatest success has been the shift in the school community: environmental issues are now being taken more seriously, with students playing an active role in creating positive change.

Congratulations to all of our Eco-Committee members and students involved in these projects. We look forward to seeing them continue to be ambassadors for sustainability at George Green’s School and beyond.
