School Uniform

At George Green's School, we believe that our school uniform plays a crucial role in maintaining our ethos and fostering a sense of belonging amongst our students. It sets the tone for a disciplined and focused educational environment that supports students in their academic and personal growth.

We kindly ask that all parents/carers support us in ensuring their children wear the school uniform appropriately. A smart appearance sets the tone for a disciplined learning environment and reflects the values we uphold. Please familiarise yourself with our uniform policy, which should be adhered to consistently.

School Uniform Policy

Required branded items

The following items are available from our uniform supplier, Khalsa Schoolwear:

  • School blazer with the George Green's School (GGS) logo
  • Red and black striped tie for students in Years 7, 8 and 9
  • Black GGS logo tie for students in Years 10 and 11
  • Black school skirt with the GGS logo, worn no shorter than just above the knee. Skirts must not be rolled up.
  • PE top with the GGS logo

Optional branded items

The following optional items are also available from our uniform supplier:

  • Black V-neck jumper or cardigan with the GGS logo
  • PE zip top with the GGS logo
  • PE bottoms with the GGS logo

Required non-branded uniform

Students should wear:

  • A plain white shirt or blouse with long or short sleeves
  • Plain black tailored trousers with no studs, rivets or zips. Trousers must not be in a jean style and all pockets must be internal. Trousers should be tailored and must not be skin-tight, leggings-style or flared.
  • Plain black or white socks, or black tights
  • Plain black shoes – trainers are not permitted
  • Black salwar kameez
  • Plain black abaya worn with school uniform bottoms
  • Plain black hijab
  • Plain black Jilbab or Burka
  • Prayer hats or caps during prayer times
  • A school bag large enough to carry books, A4 folders and a Chromebook or laptop
  • A school coat, ideally plain and dark in colour and suitable for the season
  • Small hair accessories in red or black only

Footwear

Students must wear plain black school shoes. Trainers are not permitted except during PE.

The following are not permitted:

  • Fashion boots
  • Soft canvas shoes
  • Soft leather shoes, including styles such as Vans
  • Shoes with coloured stitching or coloured laces

  • Shoes must be worn at all times unless students are taking part in a sporting activity.

    If a student arrives at school wearing inappropriate footwear, they may be provided with school shoes for the day. Failure to wear the loaned shoes may result in the student being placed in the Student Support Base (SSB).

Any final decisions regarding the acceptability of uniform rest with the Principal, who may delegate responsibility to other members of the Senior Leadership Team.

Items Not Permitted

The following items are not permitted:

  • Trainers, except for PE
  • Fashion boots, canvas shoes or soft leather shoes
  • Shoes with coloured stitching or laces
  • Footless tights
  • Patterned tights or socks
  • Leggings
  • Tight jeans or trousers
  • Hoodies
  • Sports tops
  • Coats or jackets worn inside school buildings
  • Badges that have not been issued or awarded by the school
  • Teeth grills

Hair

Students may style their hair in a way that is appropriate for school.

Students must not:

  • Dye their hair unnatural colours, such as blue or green
  • Have shaven lines, patterns, steps or fashion trims in their hair

Students who dye their hair an unnatural colour will be asked to return it to a natural colour.

Make-up, Nails and Eyelashes

  • Make-up should be light and natural
  • False eyelashes are not permitted
  • False nails of any kind are not permitted
  • Nails must be a sensible length
  • Nail varnish is allowed
  • Lines shaved or cut into eyebrows are not permitted

Jewellery and Piercings

  • Only badges issued by the school are permitted.

    No jewellery is allowed, apart from:

  • Small stud earrings
  • One small stud in one nostril

  • All other visible piercings, including lip, eyebrow, tongue or other facial piercings, are not permitted.

PE Kit

Students should wear:

  • Black PE top long sleeve or t-shirt with the school's logo.
  • Black plain tracksuit bottoms or black shorts.
  • Black base layers are allowed under GGS PE kit.

As members of George Green's Sixth Form, you will be expected to wear business professional dress at all times. We have high expectations and it is important to act as positive role models within our community, and to your younger peers.  It is important that we follow this to maintain professionalism, emulating our school values in readiness for the world of work.

 
The dress code is as follows:

  • A blazer
  • Smart trousers (no jeans, combats, tracksuit bottoms or leggings), or a tailored skirt that is knee length or longer
  • Salwar kameez or abaya's are permitted (but must be worn with a blazer)
  • A smart tailored shirt or a blouse (ties are optional)
  • Smart formal shoes or boots (no trainers, sandals or flip flops)
  • Hoodies are not permitted
  • Clothes must be formal and tailored, avoiding figure hugging or tight clothing, and appropriate for a school setting
  • Make-up is permitted but should be light and age-appropriate
  • Nails should be a sensible length and nail varnish is allowed
  • Jewellery must be sensible and discreet
  • Student ID lanyard badges must be worn at all times
