Key Stage 5 Photography

If you enjoy being creative and like working with images, then Photography is your choice! You’ll learn to take Photographs with large SLR Cameras and use studio lighting for professional Photoshoots.

What will you study

You will use Photoshop and other apps to edit, enhance and transform your photographs digitally and experiment with filters and other creative techniques.You’ll look at a range of Photographers and explore genres, such as Sports Photography, Photojournalism, portraiture, landscape, cityscape and Fashion Photography.
You will become proficient in developing your own ideas and creating your own project after a theme of your selection. You will explore Photography in a creative way and use collage, paints, inks and other physical manipulation techniques to develop your work.

How your work will be assessed

You will be assessed in 2 components:
Component 1: Personal Portfolio, which is 60% of your final grade.
Component 2: Externally Set Assignment, which is 40% of your final grade.
For each Component you will create an Art project, which is assessed in 4 Assessment Objectives.

These are known as:
• AO1: Develop ideas
• AO2: Experiment with materials and techniques
•AO3: Planning and conducting photoshoots
• AO4: Final outcomes

At the end of each Component, you will complete a 6-period practical Exam, where you will create a series of Photographs. The final Photography Exam is all practical, so you won’t need to complete a written exam.

After your Art GCSE course, you can continue your Photography Art at A-Level, which is a great course!
You’ll develop invaluable transferable skills in creative thinking, problem solving, research, investigation,
communication and teamwork skills, and gain the ability to develop, refine and present ideas. Employers and universities regard all of these really highly.
